Claim Examples

General Liability

The claimant tripped over loose carpeting placed over an outdoor ice rink. She suffered a fractured arm requiring surgery. Medical bills totaled $23,500. The claim is still in litigation with significant expense exposure.

Commercial or host liquor liability
  • Host – An attendee was drinking heavily at a holiday party hosted by the insured. While driving home, the attendee lost control of her vehicle and hit a tractor trailer head on. The tractor driver suffered severe injuries and brought suit against the host of the party for negligence in serving the intoxicated guest. The driver’s injuries totaled $300,000.
  • Commercial Liquor – A minor attendee was served alcohol at a brew festival sponsored by the insured. After leaving the festival, the underage attendee got into the car, lost control of his vehicle and struck a telephone pole. He suffered severe facial lacerations.The attendee sued the event sponsor and the beer vendor for illegal service to a minor for $150,000 in bills.
Event Cancellation
  • In August 2021, Hurricane Ida slammed into New Orleans as a Category 4 hurricane and made its way up into the southeastern United States, carrying massive bands of rain with it. Bonnaroo Music Festival was scheduled to take place in Tennessee the following weekend. After torrential rains soaked the festival grounds for several days safe setup of the event was impossible. The festival was canceled in its totality and ticket refunds were offered to attendees.
Weather

A golf course was able to protect its balance sheet with Income Stabilization insurance after having an above-average number of rain days throughout the season.

Prize Indemnity

A participant in a charity golf tournament scored a hole-in-one. We paid the golfer $30,000 and the charity received an additional $6,000.

Non-appearance

When Ed Sheeran was involved in a bike accident on the streets of London in late 2017, various appearances had to be canceled or rescheduled.

Hired and Non-owned auto

A nonprofit organization is hosting a fundraising event. A volunteer offers to use their personal car to transport supplies and event guests to the venue. On the way to the venue, the volunteer is involved in an accident, causing damage to both their own vehicle and another car. The accident also results in minor injuries to the driver of the other car.

Inland Marine

A concert promoter rents audio and lighting equipment for a large outdoor music festival. During the event, a sudden and severe storm hits, causing water damage to some of the sound equipment and lighting rigs. The equipment is not recoverable, and the event organizers need to replace it to ensure the rest of the concert proceeds smoothly.
